It’s 5 a.m. I’m drinking coffee with my girlfriend The sky is blue The coffee is blacker than I’ve ever seen It’s getting late or I could say it’s early depending on how I want to look at this day It doesn’t really matter I don’t mind starting or ending this way
If today’s a dream, tomorrow’s just another fantasy Still I can’t believe you let the springtime of your life pass you by The more I wonder, the more I start to worry about this crazy life of mine But if I died tomorrow I guess I could say I had a pretty good time
There’s a fly caught in my screen The sun bakes red into my hair Water glass from the night before All I can do is sit and stare Looking out the window Counting cars I’ve got my hands in my pants but I won’t get far Because nothing takes the place of you Nothing takes the place of you
But I stop at this red light Beggar’s got his hand on my window I’m looking at the next street wishing I were already there So I throw my car into gear Pumping on the gas pedal Skidding towards my destination Leaving smoke and the beggar’s hand in the air
Well, it’s 5 a.m. I’m drinking coffee with my girl again The sky is steel blue The coffee is blacker than I’ve ever seen It’s getting late or I could say it’s early depending on how I want to look at this day I guess I’d better decide before my whole life slips away
