I burnt a part of me today
Some old dusty pictures
And memories long buried
Of lovers and friends

I have burnt with my past today
Slowly at first, then fiercely
A fire of old memories
And long forgotten feelings

And when people and places
And the taste in my mouth
Turned to ashes, so did I
Without feeling any more
Free or forgiven

And I'm still burning now
A fire much older than me
And as the old pains come back
They burn the rust inside me

I raise a toast to absent friends
And dead forgotten gods
Past deeds, and things to come
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
