Whiskey Epiphany

Old Story

Whiskey Epiphany

Mourn a man who's lost himself
And all the things he's taught
Four less words that he was told
Could've made him change his lot
Its not the colours that you bleed
That make you who you are
It's the fire that burns behind your eyes
That set this whole damn world on fire

Its an old story and you know the end, no one gets out alive
It's a bold story of a man who's got nothing left to lose

I work 9 to 5, five days a week
Barely pay my rent
I work my hands to the bone and my mind into smoke
I live alone, quiet and desperate
So one day I decided to change it all
By taking that first step
I bought a gun at a store downtown
And said that this is it

Its an old story and you know the end, no one gets out alive
It's a bold story of a man who's got nothing left to do

My plan was to walk into the bank
Raise my gun, fire 2 shots
Hoping that the security guard
Would be taken aback, caught up in shock
I'd say this is a robbery put up your hands
I don't want to hurt no one
I just want the cash, if you'll just do that
I wont have to use my gun
I picked my day two days from now
Got mentally prepared
I wrote a letter to my family
Told them I wasn't scared
I walked to the bank, gun in my pocket
Plan in my head, fire in my heart
One more block and this is it
I'll get mine and I'll be fine

We collided one block away
From the bank I was to rob
You dropped your coffee to the ground
And began to sob
I'm so sorry I musta missed you
It's been one of those days
You see I just lost my cushy job
Now I'm lost and in a daze
That's okay, I understand
Look, I know where you are
Let me buy you another one of those
My names Matt, and you are....

Its an old story and you know the end, no one gets out alive
But an old story can have a happy end... all you have to do is try to change
