Home a day early from a deadhead run

Parked the Peterbilt out by the barn

Everything looks the same in the midnight sun

But the dogs are barking

She met me with a kiss and a welcome home

She baked a pound cake, had some coffee on

But I couldn't shake that feeling that something's wrong

'Cause the dogs are barking

Ooh, the sheriff don't make it this far out

But I got eyes and ears on the ground

And the dogs are barking

Ooh, they say the truth will set you free

But secrets are hard to keep when the dogs are barking

I had a trail-cam pointed at the drive to the house

Took a walk in the woods and pulled the card out

And it didn't take long to figure out

Why the dogs were barking

Twenty pictures of a banker's Cadillac

Got him coming, got him going, got him coming back

Caught 'em both red-handed in white and black

While the dogs were barking

Ooh, Sheriff Hughes, he don't make it this far out

But I got eyes and ears on the ground

And the dogs are barking

Ooh, went to the bank and I got me some cash

He waved at me, I just smiled back

At a dead man walking

A dead man walking

The newspapers say that banker, he disappeared

Yeah, I read it in Spanish down here

Ooh, a Peterbilt in a peso town

Heard the States were running their hounds

But mine are here with me and they ain't talking

Ooh, I bet she's wondering where her banker is now

I probably should have put him further down

'Cause the dogs are barking, oh

Ooh, they say the truth will set you free

But secrets are hard to keep

When the dogs are barking

The dogs are barking

The dogs are barking
