In a dream I carried him until my back went numb.
When we finally reached the waters he put his head to mine and whispered...

"We are such great weepers. Tired, tried, and true. Chest to chest. Cheek to cheek. Arms around familiar shoulders."

I knelt down by his side and prayed until my throat was hoarse. And with a face soured by sadness I closed my eyes and kissed the casket.

And then death rose!
Great and wide, stronger than we ever were.
Let beauty breathe, then let it die.
